An Italian Contorno (Side Dish) from Teramo in Abruzzo

Peperonata is an Italian side dish often served in the Abruzzo Region of Italy.

  • i always remember my mother making “pepperonata”. My parents are both from Abruzzo, from Pescara.
    My mother always used red and green peppers, onions, tomatoes, salt and fresh basil from the garden.
    This sauce would simmer away for over an hour.
    My mother would then serve it with a meat dish, and lots of crusty bread.
    Really yum.
